I work with my colleagues and teams around the world to improve the quality of reporting on climate change and air pollutant emissions.

Richard Claxton, Principal Consultant

Richard joined Aether in 2012 and has gained extensive experience managing and delivering projects in the air pollutant and climate change sectors. He has a passion for working with focused teams and collaborators to improve the quality of national data and reports, implementing this through practical solutions. Richard has worked on projects with government agencies and institutions across Europe, Africa and the Caribbean. He plays an active role in the international review of climate change reporting on behalf of the UNFCCC, and for air pollutants under the NECD and LRTAP review activities. In 2017, he was seconded to Defra, working as a Senior Scientific Officer within the air quality evidence team.

Recently, Richard has led analysis on the status of EU-level waste sector policies and measures reporting as part of Aether’s role within the European Topic Centre on Climate Change Mitigation. He also led a team of international experts to analyse the impact to EU Member States of implementing the 2019 Refinement to the IPCC Guidelines for National GHG Inventories on behalf of the European Commission. At UK level, Richard has recently been working to research and evaluate high priority topics and drivers of future change in UK air quality on behalf of the Environment Agency. He also specialises in research and developing guidance on short-lived climate forcers and GHG emissions from the waste sector.

Richard enjoys his time in South Oxfordshire getting outside and exploring with his wife who runs a local dog walking and pet care company. They have a son and a dog of their own that keep them busy and active.
