Rail Energy & Emissions Modelling Consultant
Aether is a niche environmental consultancy specialising in the compilation, reporting, and review of emission inventories and projections and the development of sectoral policies and measures at a city, regional and national level. We have detailed knowledge of the rail sector, including expertise in estimating and modelling train energy usage and emissions and how these vary across the UK rail network by traffic level and rolling stock type. Our clients include RSSB, Defra, TfL and other railway industry stakeholders.
We are looking for a highly numerate consultant with a demonstrated interest in current UK railway operations, and preferably with a knowledge of improving air quality and addressing climate change. We value pro-active staff who are well organised, show attention to detail, and looking to develop their skills through the rail sector’s response to climate change.
The Role
The successful applicant will contribute to a wide-ranging portfolio of rail projects at Aether, as well as business development tasks. The post holder will spend most of their time working on technical rail projects, undertaking the processing, analysis and mapping of data, energy and emissions modelling, desk-based research, and presenting/discussing the results with the project managers. Contributions to other project areas such as report writing, presentations and meetings with customers can also be expected, as well as some administrative tasks.
Required Experience and Skills
We are seeking consultants who can operate in a small and dynamic consultancy.
Working alongside our founders we are looking for individuals who have:

Excellent numerical and data handling skills

Proficient use of excel

Existing knowledge of coding programmes (R, Python) would be beneficial, but training will be provided

Knowledge of the current UK railway network and operations

Renumeration
As a small company we offer salaries based on the skills, experience, capabilities and role of each of our consultants. The guided salary is from £27,000 pa.
