Richard is an analyst with broad experience in environmental science, sustainability, transport and statistics. His main expertise lies in developing efficient systems to manipulate and quality assure data, and in producing innovative analysis and visualisations to communicate results. Richard joined Aether in 2017 having previously worked as a statistician at the Department for Transport and before that as an agro-ecology researcher at the University of Leeds.

Richard is currently involved in two projects for the European Topic Centre on Air Pollution and Climate Change Mitigation (ETC-ACM), concerning the impact of taxes and incentives to encourage the uptake of low-emission vehicles, and investigating the spatial association of social deprivation and exposure to air and noise pollution in Europe.    

Before joining Aether, Richard led the development of efficient systems for producing and disseminating national road traffic and freight statistics. He worked with colleagues and customers within and outside government to provide bespoke analyses underpinning policy development, impact assessments and cost-benefit analyses.

As a researcher in agricultural ecology and sustainability, Richard led a research project to understand the trade-offs and synergies between different aspects of agricultural sustainability, in response to differing land management.

When not at work, Richard enjoys going on walks with his wife to find interesting wildlife, cycling and eating good food.
