Construction & Property Developers

Aether has many years of experience in undertaking air quality assessments for domestic, commercial and industrial developments.

Air quality assessments are often required by Local Authorities as part of the planning process for developments.  They aim to ensure that local residents are not exposed to poor air quality and that the development will not significantly worsen air quality in the vicinity. As well as air quality assessments, Aether can provide acoustics and noise assessments which are also often required by Local Authorities as part of the planning process.

See below for more information about the types of assessment that we can undertake.

Core services

Air quality assessments

Aether has completed numerous air quality assessments in recent years, ranging from assessments for small-scale residential conversions to large mixed use developments.  Other examples include schools and nurseries, hospitals and hotels. These have been in the form of either screening assessments or detailed dispersion modelling, depending on the level of concern about air quality. From project start, Aether liaises with both the client and local authority officers in order to determine the assessment requirements, enabling a fast turnaround of reports that adhere to best practice guidance.

Air quality monitoring

Where air quality modelling is inappropriate or inconclusive, Aether can conduct diffusion tube surveys.   Diffusion tubes are a simple way of monitoring nitrogen dioxide (NO2) concentrations that allow a number of sites to be monitored over 6 months or longer time periods.  This is beneficial compared to automatic monitors, which are expensive to set up and run. The results can then be used to evaluate potential public exposure at relevant locations and appropriate mitigation put in place if required.

Noise assessments

Aether works with associates who can provide acoustics and noise assessments in the area surrounding your site. Noise measurements are taken over a 24 hours period using a calibrated sound meter. The acoustic consultants are Members of the Institute of Acoustics (IOA), and can undertake environmental noise assessments for planning purposes. This includes liaising with both the client and local authority officers in order to determine the assessment requirements, enabling a fast turnaround of reports that adhere to best practice guidance.
