Barbados workshop

31 January 2013

Justin, Chris and Melanie recently returned from Barbados where they gave a 2 day capacity building and technical training workshop on greenhouse gas inventories. This followed on from Aether compiling the 2010 GHG emissions inventory for Barbados, which will form part of their Second National Communication Report.

Barbados is a Non- Annex I party to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). GHG emission estimates have been made for the period 2000 to 2010 at yearly intervals (where possible) for the following sectors: Energy (including domestic transport), industrial processes, waste, agriculture and Land Use Land Use Change and Forestry (LULUCF).

The capacity training workshop was aimed at a wider audience and provided a background to inventories in general and presented the results of the Barbados inventory. The technical training sessions were aimed at future data compilers and for each sector covered there was a hands on training session where the data requirements and methodology was dicussed in detail and participants were tasked with using the sector spreadsheets to modify variables and undertake calculations.
