Mauritius NDC Registry Platform

18 May 2022

Aether is working with Mauritius to develop a Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) Registry Portal. This is an IT platform that supports data collection and progress tracking for NDCs based on Aether’s standardised approach to Transparency Systems. The work, in collaboration with PwC Mauritius, aims to establish a platform that will facilitate data collection, data management and communication activities necessary to build a sustainable national transparency system that integrates climate change mitigation and adaptation concerns and interests, and facilitates transparent tracking of the NDCs.

The bespoke platform can improve data accessibility for climate action decision makers and promotes involvement in the climate policy process for a range of stakeholders. The NDC Registry Portal is designed to streamline the climate action data collection workflow by providing a collaborative space for contributors and admins to create and assign data collection tasks. The scope of the platform covers climate related outcomes (NDC targets and national strategic goals), interventions, support (financial, technological and capacity building) and indicators to track progress. Submitted information will be verified by data custodians and independent verifiers for rigorous quality control and quality assurance.

Ultimately, the platform aims to make transparent reporting on climate action progress easier for national technical experts and UNFCCC focal points for well-informed international diplomacy and domestic decision making.

Delivery of the platform involves a scoping phase and gathering user requirements, staged development of the NDC Registry Portal, beta version testing and training of key user groups before the platform goes live. Once the NDC Registry Portal is launched, the next step is to support stakeholders to populate the platform with content for the long-term integration of the NDC Registry Portal into national climate change monitoring and reporting processes.
