Chris Dore Appears on BBC Oxford

10 April 2013

Chris Dore was interviewed by local TV and radio regarding the closure of Didcot A power station. The coal fired station opted out of the Large Combustion Plant Directive, and as a result was given an allocation of 20,000 operating hours from 2008 onwards. The plant recently reached its limit and has now shut down.

Whilst many people reminisced about the importance of the plants contribution to the local economy (and the skyline!), it is important to remember that the plant is closing because it does not meet current emission standards. nPower, the owners of the plant, chose not to invest in improving the environmental performance of the plant on the grounds that it was not cost effective to do so. As a result, the site closure has been known about for several years and activities have been gradually ramped down.
